EYE

31 march 2016

A short CG animation about a character that breaks out of his own form.

This short was my first CG animated short involving a character. I inspired it by the Eye Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

I was always intrigued by the architecture of Eye. The whole building shows a a very modern and complex use of structure. Yet it wasn't the building that actracted me to EYE, but its vision. EYE institute tries to preserve but also innovate the way we think about film. There is so much more to a camera than just the images it records. It is the job of the designer/artist to constantly change our perspective a specific medium.

I wanted to share this philosophy with my character by exploring the possibilities of the Maya software. I wanted to start with a simple design, and then tear it apart. What is usually seen as an animation flaw, I used as the most important feature of the character. He frees himself form his boring and rigid form into a constantly changing and glitching blob of chaos.
